Elden Ring is a massive game, so chances are good that it’ll take more than one playthrough to see everything. Seeing as how starting new game plus in Elden Ring is as easy as resting at the Roundtable of Lost Grace and selecting the “Begin Journey 2” option, it can be tempting to do so without making any preparations. Don’t do that. There are certain things that can only be done with most of the map accessible and most of the stores unlocked. If one wants to start new game plus on the best possible footing, there are a few steps that should be taken first.

Okay, so now that most of the bosses have been defeated and most of the dungeons have been found and looted, the only thing left to do is spend all those extra runes at the Twin Maiden Husks Shop in Roundtable Hold. All bell bearings (and the items they unlock) are lost upon starting new game plus, so it’s best to buy up as many rare consumables, materials and smithing stones as possible before starting that next run. The other useful Spirit Ash is the Black Knife Tiche Ashes . Bosses have a difficult time hitting her, and her ranged attack drains health for Eldenringportal.com a certain percentage. She can drain bosses for a stupid amount of damage if they leave her alone for too long. There are two main drawbacks to using her, though. The first is that she’s expensive to summon, requiring around 132 FP. The second is that she doesn’t draw aggro as often, so players will need to be more careful about avoiding hits. If she sounds useful, though, she can be obtained by defeating Alecto, Black Knife Ringleader in the Ringleader’s Evergaol in Liurnia (accessed by progressing Ranni’s questline ).

As for Bell Bearing Hunters, there are four in total, they all appear at night, and they’re all inexplicably tough. As with all the previously-mentioned boss enemies, though, the rewards are often worth it. Each hunter awards a special bell bearing upon its defeat, enabling players to gain easy access to high-level materials and more. Track them down at the following locations and bring that A-game; they’ll punish anything and everything less.

Elden Ring ‘s modding community has already introduced several mods that reduce the game’s imposed challenges . And there’s nothing wrong with that, providing they’re used offline. So, for those craving more accessibility, these mods ought to lower blood pressure quite a bit. A word of warning though: these mods are not meant to be used online . Doing so will likely result in a ban and could ruin other players’ experiences. Also, while it can be tempting to use mods that make the game easier, a huge part of what makes FromSoftware games so special is the challenge they pose. Once again, a named NPC will invade and players must defeat them to get the weapon. As for Mohgwyn’s Sacred Spear, they’ll have to travel to Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum and defeat the Lord of Blood himself in order to get his weapon. All of these weapons are not necessary to have on hand, but they make for a nice range of options. Of the three, though, Rivers of Blood is the most usable, so go for that one at the very least. Of course, these will all need to be upgraded in order to get the full effect.

As for weapon choice, the Eleonora’s Poleblade does well against single enemies, but struggles against groups; use the katana or spear for those. The spear does well against massive enemies with exploitable blindspots, such as dragons, but its weapon art leaves the user exposed to smaller enemies/bosses with a high stagger threshold. The katana is good overall, so it’ll probably be one’s weapon of choice more often than not. Its drawback is that it leaves the user exposed if it doesn’t either kill or stagger the target with the opening series of slashes. In short, consider the enemy’s strengths and weaknesses and choose accordingly. The same goes for the Ash summons and the tears used in the Wondrous Physick. This build isn’t a guaranteed win every time, but it should make many encounters go much more easily once one gets used to it. So, why not give it a shot?
